Thursday April 13th, Limerick Fire Company responded to a brush fire in Schwenksville Borough along the Perkiomen Trail. Ladder 54 was initially enroute to a standby at Lower Frederick Fire Company when they were redirected along with Trappe Fire Company (Sta. 77) for a brush fire. Battalion 54 responded and met with Ladder 54 on location. Ladder 54 had pulled 150 feet of hose and began extinguishing the fire. The fire had spread into a hollow tree and burned about 14 feet up into the tree. Field 54, TAC77 and Engine 77 responded and assisted on the call. The fire was located on the bank of the Perkiomen Creek along the Perkiomen Trail. Montgomery County Parks was notified to have a representative respond. Crews made numerous attempts to extinguish the tree but due to the size of the tree and the fire still smoldering in the hollow tree, a tree service was requested to assist. Superior Tree Service responded and cut the tree down allowing crews to extinguish hot spots within the tree.
